In the season of spring blossoms, Guangzhou HG Marine Co.Ltd. successfully delivered a batch of GRM260  rim driven thrusters to Jimei University. These will be installed on a new fully electric smart ship being developed by Jimei University. The ship is 4.8 meters long, powered entirely by lithium batteries, and is mainly used for dual-thruster hull performance testing in nearshore waters, laying the hardware foundation for the development of the next generation of smart ships. The propulsion solution adopted in this project is the world's latest 4th-generation electric thruster, which offers ultra-low noise, ultra-high efficiency and reliability, and is completely leak-free. It perfectly replaces traditional propeller thrusters and can also thoroughly improve the steering performance issues of the previous generation of pod thrusters. It is a revolutionary and epoch-making product in the field of marine propulsion systems.

Guangzhou HG Marine Co.Ltd. is a specialized and innovative enterprise and a high-tech company in Guangdong Province, and it is a council member unit of the Guangdong Society of Shipbuilding Engineering. In 2021, the rim driven thruster developed by Guangzhou Marine Engineering passed the inspection of the China Classification Society, obtaining the first domestic ship inspection certificate for rim-type propellers. Guangzhou HG has mastered the core technological processes and independent intellectual property rights of the rim driven thruster, accumulated extensive R&D, manufacturing, and commercial application experience, and occupies a leading position domestically. In recent years, it has developed the rim driven thruster ranging from 1 to 1000 kW of various specifications, suitable for use as main or side thrusters on various types of vessels. It is believed that in the future, rim driven thrusters will continue to lead global ship propulsion technology development and achieve applications in new energy and intelligent systems.
